Awareness Through Movement®

Each class series focuses on a unique movement theme, such as improving breathing, walking, or sleep quality.

Classes are designed to help you explore how you move, bringing awareness to your movement habits and patterns through specific sequences.

I will encourage mindful adjustments for improved mobility and function. Each session is adaptable, offering variations to suit everyone - from those recovering from injuries to professional athletes - so you can learn what your body needs.

Mindful Yoga

I teach Yoga to help you connect with your body's responses to both stillness and movement. Each class includes asana (poses), vinyasa (flow), restorative poses, and pranayama (breathing techniques). The focus is on your body's alignment and comfort. Poses are adapted to your individual ability, ranging from simple to more complex, to help you find balance with each breath.

Bones for Life®

Because there's no pill for posture!

In class we move through a series of movements that improve the quality of body coordination. The emphasis of the programme is on organising the skeleton into a safe weight-bearing posture for bone strength and suppleness. We use Simple tools to facilitate the development of resistance to pressure, like using a strip of cloth as a harness, pushing a wall, lifting weights, or learning safe ways of falling.

Main Objectives:

  • Develop harmonious coordination
  • Empower lively & dynamic gait
  • Maintain fitness at any age
  • Restore resourcefulness of equilibrium & stability
  • Align posture in the body language of self confidence
Improve coordination, bone strength, and posture while learning safe movement techniques.

Private sessions

Experience personalised, hands-on sessions of The Feldenkrais Method® tailored to your unique movement needs. These private lessons typically take place lying on a table but may also include sitting, standing, or walking.

Through gentle touch and guided exploration, I help you become more aware of your movement patterns. By introducing new variations, you can release tension, reduce pain, and move with greater ease and efficiency - all while remaining fully clothed!

FAQ

The Feldenkrais method. THE WHAT?

Feldenkrais. It is a method of movement re-education, named after the man who developed it, Moshe Feldenkrais.

Awareness Through Movement. Is this an exercise class?

No, not in the sense that we are working hard building muscle or stretching, but it is moving. The lessons are designed so we explore how we move. This enables us to make changes to any habits that are causing pain or poor posture.

Will you really create a programme for me?

Yes, for you personally through private sessions, with suggested home play, or create a series of lessons for a group to help you meet your lifestyle or movement needs.

Are the Functional Integration lessons like massage or chiropractic?

In general, a massage therapist focuses on muscles, and a chiropractor on our skeletal alignment, and a Feldenkrais practitioner looks at your overall movement patterns and uses gentle touch and movements to suggest different patterns.

What kind of Yoga do you teach?

There are 2 descriptions I like: Subtle and Somatic:

  • Subtle, because I don’t push you into and through poses, but let you explore within your limits
  • Somatic, because I encourage you to feel each movement and your breathing, rather than “doing a pose”.
